A Wine's Abbreviated Declaration of Independence

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Wines are Not created equal, that they are endowed by their Geography, Weather Patterns, Winemaker, and vastly more, with certain unalienable Attributes, that among these are Uniqueness, Vibrancy,

and the pursuit of Appeal.

That to secure these rights, Appellations and Practices are instituted among Grape Growers and Regions, deriving their just powers from the Devine Nature of their Location, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the Congregation of Winegrowers and Winemakers to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Guidelines, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Appellations and Practices long established should not be changed for light and transient causes, including Monetary Gain, no matter how; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Intent of Bastardizing a Wine with an increase in profit in mind evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is the right of the aforementioned, Nay, it is their DUTY to throw off such Government and Ill Advised Greed, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Such has been the patient sufferance of New, (and Old) World Wine Regions; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government.

The history of the present commercialization and degradation of Wines is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over many a Bottle.

To prove this, let Facts and Practices be submitted to a candid world re-affirming the need for Enjoyable, reasonably Priced, Responsibly Represented and Merchanted wines to be available in the Colony of Oakland, and Yea!, Beyond it’s boundaries.

In Conclusion we Say and Affirm: Go Forth and Enjoy Your own Independence with

a handcrafted bottle of wine (or even Rum if Colonial Tradition would hold) on this
